Longing for Spring? It’s time to!
The ancient Latvian Spring waiting holiday also known as Shrove Tuesday will be celebrated soon.
Kalnciema Quarter organises a Meteņi Carnival with the Venetian carnival spirit on Saturday, February 6, from 10 AM to 4 PM.
During the carnival, Folk group “Skandinieki” will perform on the stage, while Italian culture club L’italii will take care of the demonstration of Venice carnival traditions.
To dispel the February greyish mood, Kalnciema Quarter will dress in bright robes and masks and will wait for you at the Meteņi market.
Children will be able to bake blinis (traditional rye pancakes) Latgalian style, a soup cooked on fire will be served, guests will play with “Skandinieki”, while the Italian Culture Centre will invite you to participate in the magnificent Venetian mask workshop.
Farmers and artisans will sell pies, cakes, bacon, pigs ears, woven scarves, forged bells and other interesting things.
And yeah — the entrance is free of charge!
