Friday night at Jaunais Rīgas teātris took a hard left turn.
A fire alarm kicked off at JRT on Lāčplēša iela. Then the suppression system did what it’s built to do — and water started pouring across the first floor.
No smoke. No fire anyone could see. Just wet floors and a night that got cancelled.
What went down
JRT’s Inga Liepiņa said the alarm triggered the system, flooding ground-floor spaces. On Friday night they still couldn’t say why it went off, how far the water spread, or what the damage bill looks like.
Three performances scheduled for the evening are gone:
- two never started
- one got cut mid-show, with the audience evacuated
That’s the whole Friday slate at Lāčplēša 25 — wiped.
Why it hits
JRT isn’t some random stage. It’s one of Riga’s cultural anchors, back in its historic house after the long rebuild. A packed Friday still lands hard — even while damage and schedule fallout stay TBD.
Lāčplēša 25 got the wrong kind of drama tonight.
