If you roll through Ziepniekkalns — plan extra time. Starting today.
City Hall is closing vehicle traffic on the existing Ziepniekkalns iela overpass, from Ūpju iela to Kalētu iela, from 30 September through 23 October. Reason: Jāņa Čakstes gatve construction — the big Southern Bridge (Dienvidu tilts) stage 4 build that still has Riga grinding toward 2027.
That stretch is a daily choke for anyone hopping between the microdistrict, the bridge approaches, and the Ķekava / Bauska run. Follow the signs. Don’t invent your own exit. Pad the commute.
The wider project is not a weekend patch: new Čakstes gatve lanes, fresh overpasses, pedestrian tunnels, bike bits, and utility rebuilds — all stacked into the Southern Bridge fourth stage. Finish line the city keeps saying: 2027.
Same city, same season of bridge headaches — we already clocked the €20M temporary-bridge fight over Vanšu. And if street design still feels half-finished elsewhere, see the Purvciems zebra that ends at a barrier.
Ziepniekkalns: three and a half weeks with that overpass locked. Map it, leave earlier, stay sharp.
