The Swedish furniture giant IKEA is finally set to open doors in Riga. The long-awaited IKEA Store is located in East Riga — just outside of Mežciems a.k.a. the Forest Village.
The Grand Opening will take place August 30 on the IKEA Latvia premises, with the first IKEA store in Latvia, and the largest in the Baltics, to welcome thousands of guests to celebrate the special day and enjoy festive mood and unique shopping experience.
The floor space of the new IKEA Riga store is 34.500 square meters, built on a 10-hectare land plot. The venue will offer more than 8,000 Swedish design home furnishing items from kitchens, living room, children furniture, to cutlery and home decorations.
Traditional IKEA meatballs will be there as well — the building features a restaurant, bistro and the Swedish food market. The restaurant will seat 450 and will offer Swedish food, such as the infamous meatballs, salmon, along with the local traditional dishes and free drink refills.
Paul Mason Properties is the IKEA franchisee for Latvia and is under the same ownership as the IKEA operating in Lithuania and Iceland. The Lithuanian store in Vilnius, known to many Latvian IKEA fans, was the first to open in the Baltics, and many locals drove to the Lithuanian capital to shop at their favorite store.
The Latvian store is about a third bigger and will hold a better choice of furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories.
The vision of IKEA is to create a better everyday life for the many people, offering well-designed, functional, affordable home furnishing products and solutions.
Total investment into the IKEA Riga store is nearing 60 million EUR, and expected to reach 100 million with further improvements to be done.
Globally, IKEA is the largest furniture retailer since at least 2008. Check out IKEA by Numbers to learn more.
