POSITIVUS
14th – 16th of July, Salacgrīva
Positivus Festival is a mammoth multi-genre music festival held in Latvia each year. It is the largest festival in the Baltic States and draws in huge crowds from across the continent and beyond.
Home to an array of sights and sounds, the festival welcomes cultural themes, artistic installations, film screenings, theatre, a magical kid’s island. All of this is topped by a lineup of both international stars and the hottest emerging talent. Positivus is the Baltic region’s number one and is touted by The Guardian as one of the top small festivals in Europe.
Previous artists to have graced the stages here include Led Zeppelin, Kasabian, Kraftwerk, Robert Plant, Basement Jaxx, Bastille, The Kooks, Placebo and many more.
Here are five more reasons to consider a trip:
- It takes place in a secluded forest a stone’s throw from the sea, giving it a magical otherworldliness that few places can match.
- Its small size (30,000 people) means you waste less band time trying to get from stage to stage.
- There’s a strong British showing among the headline acts every year.
- Need a break from the dancing? Chill out in the hammocks strung up among the trees, wander around the fashion market, relax in the cinema tent, fill your belly with some top-notch grub – or even go for a dip in the sea!
- Latvia’s sunny summer weather generally keeps to a pleasant 25C, so there’s less chance of rain dampening your spirits or your tent turning into a sauna.
