The Historical Red Cross Hospital in Riga’s Grizinkalns, built in 1912, has been renovated and reopened to the public by the Medical Company ARS, on May 30, 2024.
The construction works lasted for more than a decade beginning back in 2010. Despite multiple challenges encountered along the journey, ARS’s commitment to restoring this historic institution remained undeterred. The major focus was on preserving the original architectural glory while simultaneously equipping the hospital with state-of-the-art medical technology. The end result is a wonderful blend of past and present, serving as a beacon of healthcare innovation and historical preservation.
The Grizinkalns neighborhood is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and this rejuvenated hospital only elevates its historical and cultural value. Its strategic location makes it easily accessible for residents, echoing its original mission of public service.
Thanks to the passion and dedication of Maris Andersons, the Chairman of the Board at ARS, the project has reached its successful conclusion. Mr. Andersons’ leadership has undoubtedly been instrumental in realizing this monumental task. His belief in nurturing the craftsmanship and the latest technologies is indeed setting new standards in Latvian modern healthcare.

The new hospital features two state-of-the-art operating rooms equipped for minimally invasive surgeries, such as gynecology, urology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, spine, and breast surgery among others. The hospital continues to offer top-notch diagnostic services on the first floor. Urology, gynecology, otolaryngology, breast health, and more medical consultations are available on the second floor, mirroring the services of the ARS Clinic on Skolas Street.
The total invested amount in this massive renovation project, including the medical equipment, is said to be €20 million. The project was completed with the combined help of the company’s private financing, Swedbank, and Altum.
