Gaudeamus 2026: 4,000 Students Are About to Take Over Riga

June 18th, 2026 News

Worth Reading

If you thought Riga was loud on a regular Friday night, brace yourself. The 20th Baltic Student Song and Dance Festival, “Gaudeamus”, is rolling into town from June 19 to 21, and they are bringing serious numbers. We’re talking 4,000 students from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia converging on the capital.

This isn’t just your average choir practice. It’s a massive cultural flex that dates back decades, mixing traditional Baltic heritage with young, raw energy. Expect the streets, especially around the major venues and the Old Town, to be absolutely packed with singing, dancing, and probably a fair share of late-night afterparties.

What makes Gaudeamus truly special is the sheer scale of the choreography. These students train for months to perfect routines that symbolize the unity of the Baltic states. It’s a powerful reminder of our shared history, packaged in a visually stunning, loud, and incredibly vibrant weekend.

For the locals, this means two things: incredible vibes if you want to soak up some Baltic unity, and absolute chaos if you’re just trying to grab a quiet coffee in the center. Either way, the city is going to be electric this weekend. Welcome to the madness, students.
